The Friendís of The New England Holocaust Memorial, dedicated a monument honoring the WW II American Soldiers who were among the first of the Allied forces to enter the Nazi concentration camps, liberating the imprisoned Jews. David Berarducci Landscape Architecture (DBLA) developed the design plans for the monument from a conceptual design by architects Finegold Alexander + Associates, Boston. The monument, located along Bostonís Freedom Trail and adjacent to the existing Memorial site, consists of two black granite slab grids, with open grass joints. The grid arrangements flank each side of the central walkway, each with a raised granite tablet at opposite ends matching details of the Memorial itself. One side features a 40 foot high lighted flagpole displaying the American Flag, the other an inscribed quote from then General, Dwight D. Eisenhower. In addition to the Liberatorsí Monument, DBLA addressed a series of functional problems within the site and developed a series of recommended improvements addressing these problems.
